To Promote Academic Culture, Islamic Economics Study Program Holds Its First Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition

Yogyakarta (30/11) - As students, it is crucial to acquire effective communication skills as researchers and academics in order to effectively convey their research findings to the general public, including those without a scientific background.

In an endeavor to foster an academic culture on campus, the Islamic Economics Study Program, FEBI, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta held the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition to promote intellectual development and professionalism among students. The competition was attended by the Vice Dean II, Head of the Study Program, Program Secretary, lecturers, and students of the Islamic Economics Study Program.

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition addresses the necessity of delivering research succinctly, clearly, and engagingly within a constrained time frame. This concept was first introduced by the University of Queensland in Australia in 2008.

The competition commenced with an opening address by Dr. Abdul Qoyum, S.E.I., M.Sc.Fin., the Head of the Sharia Economics Study Program, followed by a speech from M Zein Dedy Setiawan, representing the students of the Islamic Economics Study Program. It then proceeded with thesis presentations by students from the 2021 batch to the Master's level. The presentations were attended by 25 groups of students from the 2021 batch of the Islamic Economics Study Program and 4 groups of Master's students in Islamic Economics. Each thesis was assessed by three discussants, including the Econometrics Course Supervisor, who were lecturers of the Islamic Economics Study Program.

According to the Head of the Islamic Economics Study Program, Dr. Abdul Qoyum, S.E.I., M.Sc.Fin, this competition is expected to develop a mental framework for explaining the results of their research. Students receive assistance in preparing both comprehensive and succinct presentations to be delivered within a 3-minute timeframe.
