A Student from Islamic Economics Study Program Graduates as the Best and Fastest Graduate

On Wednesday, July 21, 2020, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta held the third period graduation for the Academic Year 2019/2020, attended by 696 graduates, comprising of 570 Bachelor's degree (S1) graduates, 120 Master's degree (S2) graduates, and 6 Doctoral (S3) graduates. This graduation marked a historic moment for UIN Sunan Kalijaga as it was the first virtual graduation conducted in compliance with health protocols amidst the pandemic. Prof. Dr. Phil Al Makin, MA, the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, expressed that the graduation during the pandemic should instill greater self-awareness and reflection among the graduates for the greater good. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic was viewed as an opportunity for fostering innovation, creativity, and job creation.
During this graduation, Rahma Maulidina, a student of the Islamic Economics Study Program, achieved the distinction of being one of the best and fastest graduates, attaining a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.86 and completing her studies in 3 years, 5 months, and 17 days. Rahma, a recipient of the BIDIKMISI scholarship, expressed her joy and pride in becoming the top graduate from the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. She remarked, "I believe that everyone faces their own struggles. Becoming the best graduate is not something monumental, but it is a personal achievement. It demonstrates that with my efforts, I can be one of the best."
During her studies, Rahma found great enjoyment in the learning process, despite encountering various challenges. She actively engaged in campus organizations, holding a position as an officer in the Student Association of the Islamic Economics Study Program (HMPS-ES) and taking part in the Forum for the Study of Islamic Economics and Business (ForSEBI), alongside other student activities. Rahma also revealed that she experienced delays in her thesis due to procrastination and being overly absorbed in her online business. She credited her thesis advisor, Dr. Sunaryati, for reminding her of the thesis deadline.
Rahma's advice for students pursuing education is to seek their parents' blessings, maintain consistency, and effectively manage their time. She underscores the importance of time management for students to accomplish their tasks punctually. Looking ahead, she expressed her aspiration to continue her studies in her favored field of economics and finance, aiming to acquire additional knowledge that can have a more profound impact on herself and society in the future.
In addition to Rahma Maulidina, another graduate from the Islamic Economics Study Program garnered attention by getting married simultaneously with the virtual graduation. The Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga extended congratulations to Muhammad Nur Najhan, entering into marriage during the era of COVID-19, remarking, "Getting married in the time of Corona, I think it will quickly multiply." Muhammad Nur Najhan, a native of Seruyan, found himself in an unexpected situation when his long-planned wedding coincided with a virtual graduation ceremony. Determined not to miss out on either joyous occasion, Najhan decided to participate in the virtual graduation while dressed in his wedding attire.
Despite conducting a virtual graduation alongside his wedding, Muhammad Nur Najhan was an active student in various campus organizations. This Central Kalimantan graduate graduated with honors, achieving a GPA of 3.52.
In conclusion, the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga expressed his hope that the graduates would become ambassadors who represent UIN Sunan Kalijaga as a friendly, tolerant, and diverse Islamic institution. He also hoped that the graduates would apply the knowledge gained from the university to society and the environment. "Knowledge is one thing, action is another. Knowledge is learned at the university, action is in society, work is in the office or workplace. Knowledge is the material, action is the practice," he emphasized.
