FEBI UIN SUKA Students Do International Devotion to Improve Sharia Financial Literacy for Migrant Workers in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, 27 August 2023 - Seven students from the Sharia Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Islamic Business (FEBI), carried out an extraordinary social innovation program entitled “International Devotion in Malaysia: Improving the Financial Literacy of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia”. This activity was held in Kuala Lumpur with the main objective of increasing Islamic financial literacy among Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) working in Malaysia.

This program was chaired by Moh Arifal Abror and involved active participation from all team members consisting of FEBI students. They have prepared various educational and interactive materials specifically designed to provide an in-depth understanding of Islamic finance to the migrant workers.

Educational and Interactive Activities

The day-long activity included various sessions, including:
- Sharia Financial Literacy Workshop: Teaches the basics of sharia finance, such as income management, savings, sharia investments, and debt management in accordance with sharia principles.
- Simulations and Case Studies: Engaging participants in financial management simulations and real-life case studies to provide practical experience.
- Personal Consultation Sessions: Provides an opportunity for migrant workers to get direct and personalized guidance according to their own financial situation.

Positive Impact for Migrant Workers

The program was attended by dozens of migrant workers who were enthusiastic about improving their knowledge of sharia finance. The participants reported that the program was very useful in helping them manage their finances better and in accordance with sharia principles. One of the participants, Ibu Siti, stated, “I am really helped by this program. Now I understand better how to manage my finances wisely and in accordance with Islamic teachings.”

Expectations and Future

The team leader, Moh Arifal Abror, expressed his hope that this program can have a positive long-term impact on the financial and social welfare of the migrant workers. “We hope that this activity will not only provide temporary knowledge, but also inspire the migrant workers to continue applying the principles of sharia finance in their daily lives,” he said.

With the end of this activity, the FEBI student team hopes to continue similar programs in the future, not only in Malaysia but also in other countries that have significant migrant worker communities. They also hope to work with various parties, including the Indonesian government and Islamic financial institutions, to expand the positive impact of this program.

The activity “International Devotion in Malaysia: Improving the Financial Literacy of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia” is a real step from FEBI students in devoting the knowledge they have gained for the benefit of the people. With high enthusiasm and devotion, they have succeeded in making a meaningful contribution to the migrant worker community in Malaysia.
