ISLAMIC ECONOMICS WEBINAR SERIES 5

The Series Webinar is an online seminar event organized by the Islamic Economics Study Program, FEBI, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, utilizing Zoom platform, a popular technology for online meetings. To date, the Islamic economics program has successfully conducted 5 webinars. The topic of the 5th series webinar was the Philosophy and Development of Islamic Economics in Indonesia. The webinar took place on Thursday, September 17, 2020, from 15:45 WIB to 17:30 WIB. The event included a presentation by the speaker and a Q&A session between participants and the speaker.
The event was opened by the host Aya Sofya Iklima and moderated by Mr. Miftakhul Choiri. The 5th series webinar featured Mr. Ali Sakti as the speaker. Following the opening, the webinar commenced with a presentation on the introduction of financial institutions in Indonesia and the development of Sharia economics. The potential for Islamic economics in Indonesia is substantial, as its structure and material can be comprehended and utilized as a model for Shariah economics in various countries.
During the discussion, various economic issues were addressed, including the requirement of zakat, the encouragement of infaq-sadaqah-zakat, the prohibition of riba, and the prohibition of maysir. Additionally, it was elucidated that economics is a communal endeavor. The fundamental philosophy of Shariah economics encompasses faith, ethics, and Shariah, which emphasize the responsible use of wealth to perpetuate goodness and discourage avarice in expenditure.
He holds the belief that the prospects for Shariah economics in Indonesia are substantial, given the predominantly Muslim population and the existing utilization of the Shariah economic system by numerous financial institutions. Unlike conventional economic rationality, which is solely grounded in personal interests, sentiments, emotions, and human nature, Shariah economics is rooted in the worship of Allah, aiming to harmonize desires and needs.
The webinar was attended by 100 participants via Zoom and 90 attendees via YouTube. The attendees hailed from diverse regions in Indonesia, including Bekasi, Tasikmalaya, Bandung, Salatiga, Pekalongan, Yogyakarta, Riau, Makassar, and Ternate.
The speaker shared some compelling quotes, such as "Happiness is when you can make others smile and laugh," and "Success is when you do not neglect the well-being of others." As the event neared its conclusion, a question and answer session was initiated, and numerous attendees posed thought-provoking questions. Six questions were subsequently chosen, and after receiving comprehensive answers from the speaker, the top 4 questions were selected to receive prizes from the organizing committee.
